love of words

I got an email today that referred to “this rather dreich day”. While I’m not a fan of dreary weather, dreich is one of my all-time favorite words.

It makes me realize how much joy I get from words and word play. What are your favorite words? Do they make you happy?

Such a *perfect* Scottish word. My brain is dreich today.

Other favorites: discombobulate (hilarious) and anything coined by Liz Lemon. Did you see the recent episode making fun of her British “future husband”? He called a bicycle something like “velociped”.

I forgot. “Trompe L’Oeil” cracks me up, I pronounce it Trump De Oleeo.

gruvvulous glove (those are two “v’s”, not a “w”)
and Gluppity-Glupp–both from Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

  4. Katy Says:

THWART. From the Middle English Thwerten, apparently. I think all Middle English is funny.

Uber, everything is sooo much bigger and better when it is preceeded by “Uber”
