all of me

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Watched All of Me with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin yesterday which made me so happy.  Remember the scenes where they’re each controlling half of Steve Martin’s body?  That’s some of the best slapstick I know.  And I love the scene at the end when they dance together.

one basket fits all

In an effort to get Noola away from sleeping on an old string mop in the pantry, à la Cinderella, I set up a basket with an old apron folded up in it. I figured the apron was not so far from a mop that she could consider it above her station. And in fact she has been sleeping there.

Also Maxie.

And even Wolfie.

They’re keeping me entertained while I do my paperwork chores.

books

This Melody Beattie book is about all kinds of grief, but I was happy and surprised to realize it has chapters about health crises with exactly the message I’ve been craving.  A combination of taking charge of our own health, questioning doctors, and still giving up the need to control the outcome.

Hope + Surrender.  So different from despair, yet it lives right next door in my brain!

rest

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I am enjoying a few days off after a big work push. Nap. A trip to the architectural salvage place. The Greenpoint farmers market. Nap. It’s good to do nothing but let my mind wander after being so focused.

easy morning

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Happy Beltane!  I just found out there’s a Beltane festival in Edinburgh which 12,000 people attend??  Wow.

This morning it was easy to get up, to eat and to exercise. I’m grateful for this little Buddha in someone’s backyard, along the path I walk in the mornings.  Friendly and unobtrusive.

And it was fairly easy to comfort the dog who’s afraid of thunderstorms (a friend of Happy’s we’re looking after today.)
