critter joy II

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

I just saw the craziest thing!  A creature like Fatty Lumpkin (groundhog?) on a tree branch about 15 feet in the air, walking out toward the end of the branch, which was dipping precariously under its weight.  And!  She was surrounded by about a dozen tiny, brilliant yellow songbirds.

Why did Fatty Lumpkin climb a tree? To steal eggs?   Are groundhogs omnivores??

More critter joy:

At least one goldfish lived all winter long in the small pond by my door, it must have frozen and come back to life.

Happy licking her dog friend’s face this afternoon.  (They usually play by biting each other’s throats.)

Happy seems healthy today, even after stealing a bunch of chicken bones out of the garbage.  Sheesh.

too hot to blog…

…but iced coffee is helping.
And all the flowers in the garden.
And fresh strawberries. Local ones.
And the increasing shade as the sun goes behind the trees.
And the breeze.
It’s a beautiful day.

other people gardening

I’m so grateful today for my landlady, a Master Gardener who keeps my yard beautiful and lush.  I never developed the skill or habit myself (other than a few houseplants) so it’s just incredibly delightful to get to enjoy her bounty right outside my door.

And Estyn’s in photos on this blog!

And Nan’s in the heirloom rose bouquet she brought me this weekend!

I have some of these peonies in my apartment, the smell is heavenly.
