linchpin

Monday, November 29th, 2010

I used to joke that when I grew up I wanted to be the “linchpin of the revolution,” but later came to feel this would require too much overtime.  But lately I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to do more of the work that I love, which really changes how I feel about “work”!

I’m reading and loving Linchpin: Are you indispensable? by Seth Godin.  It challenges all the old ideas about the American Dream while positing a new one I can believe in.   -Katy

giving thanks

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

I’m grateful today that I bought nothing on Buy Nothing day. That I convinced Happy to fall back asleep at 6:30 am. That I have time this weekend to enjoy studying. For turkey soup and baked root vegetables with cranberries. For the chilly morning walk and my afternoon plans to visit the tanning booth.  -Katy

good feelings

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Four days in a row to sleep in.

Long walks with Happy after sunrise and before sunset.

Starting a long weekend with all the dishes & laundry already done.

Leaving work with a 100% empty in-box (unheard of!)

grateful this week

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

The joy of walking out of the post office at 4.50pm. Deadline met, mission accomplished, jewelry shipped.

Kitty pile-ups. With no squwooging on my part.

Making bread. The smell of it rising by the stove.

Making secret (said in a whisper) holiday projects.

Watching dumb TV while making abovesaid.

Clean kitchen counter. Finally.

Watching the birds visit the feeder.

Yoga stretches.

Singing in the kitchen. Loudly. And the worried expressions on the four cat faces that immediately came running in.

feeling better

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

I was home sick for two days this week.  I’m feeling a bit better today.  I’m grateful for Estyn’s reminder that it’s best not to think too much about my life when I have a cold.  This, too, shall pass.

my age

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Last night I attended a Speak Out, where mostly women about 18 to 25 spoke.  I am so grateful for my age. Absolutely everything in my life is easier at 41 than it was at 21 (except major joint rotation).  Massively easier.  I’m hopeful the trend will continue, and that I can emulate Alice!

grateful at 107

I found this trailer via Margaret Roach. Talk about the power of gratitude!

{Sadly the video was removed from YouTube, but you can read about it and see some pictures here.}

happy song

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

This is my new happy song.  It has all the elements I seem to love best – starts slow and speeds up, hand clapping, lyrics about happiness, someone singing loud right in the middle of my own range.  Did you see them on the VMA’s? Wacky!
