Friday Gratitude

February 25th, 2011

It is Friday. If I’m not mistaken, I actually get to sleep as late as I want tomorrow morning, for the first time in…. months?  I love sleep.  I’m thinking about my bed right now.

30 Rock last night was hilarious. Feminists making fun of feminists is my favorite.  Liz: “I want to roll my eyes right now, but my optometrist told me if I keep doing it my ocular muscles might spasm and eject my eyeballs.”

Tanning booths.

Salsa music.

Rumors that it’s actually March next week.

today

February 17th, 2011

I’m grateful:

I have some energy and vim, a relief and a joy after the funk of deep winter.

I walked from the car to the library without my coat on and I was not cold.

M and I celebrate 6 years this week. He’s nice. I love him.

No one has cried on me.

My new dentist is good. And fast.

Roasted green beans and onions. (Eaten gingerly post-dental appointment.)

A friend sent me pictures of spring in North Carolina. Proof it’s coming.

bursting with gratitude

February 16th, 2011

I walked around the block without a coat on.

The sun touched me.

I’m in love.

A newcomer cried in my arms after the meeting.

The Avett Brothers

There’s nothing like finding gold, within the rocks hard and cold,
I’m so surprised to find more. Always surprised to find more!
I won’t look back anymore, I’ve left the people that do
It’s not the chase that I love, it’s me following you!

bro

February 11th, 2011

It’s my brother’s birthday. He’s awesome.

He makes movies.

He made me a movie.

He’s handsome, and really, really tall.

He cooks delicious vegetarian meals and bakes brownies for his coworkers on a weekly basis.

He’s not afraid of being silly, and he makes me laugh.

He sends my cats toys.

He’s smart.

He’s kind.

My brother is a great guy. I am lucky.

great storytelling

February 7th, 2011

This kid tells a great story.

Once upon a time… from Capucha on Vimeo.

Amazing the way the digital native (anyone younger than I am) plays to her audience, mostly speaking directly to the camera.

truffles

February 3rd, 2011

My friend W posted this picture of an amazing assortment of chocolates she had made. MADE, people, not purchased!

looky what I made!

I greedily commented that I was getting in my car to drive cross country and lay claim to some, and then had to look away before I drooled on myself.

Imagine my pleasure and intense surprise when a few days later a gorgeous hand-painted box arrived in the mail.

Inside…

FOUR handmade chocolates. No, I will not be sharing. I will be very gratefully, and very slowly, enjoying them.

disappointed!

February 3rd, 2011

The universe is giving me some lovely treats lately.

And also some professional disappointments.  But today, just before I learned of some (hopefully temporarily) dashed hopes, I also heard that my book is being featured on a high profile website.

And somebody called me “baby”.

today

January 26th, 2011

noola the hybernating squirrel

I got a big office chore crossed off my list. Phew.

Kitties by the wood stove. It never gets old.

Scalding hot chai tea.

My inelegant, but very warm sweater. (There’s a temperature-related theme going on here.)

Dorothy Dunnett on CD + a book on Scottish country houses for a little homeland nostalgia.

Knitting as an after dinner treat.

I am grateful

January 25th, 2011

I get a three day weekend soon.

Compared to yesterday, 27 degrees felt so warm this morning that I left my coat unzipped.

Happy’s dog walker friend is coming at a perfect time for me to manage my evening schedule.

I’m ridiculously busy, but I am not bored!

I have high class problems today.
